Home, Let Me Go Home

September 27, 2013

Cheesy lyrics galore are allowed because this weekend is Hillsdale Homecoming.

I remember when I was in college I hated Homecoming. I can't believe how many times I would protest "but there's nothing for us, it's all about the alums." Well no shit, Sherlock. That's what I would say to my 18-year-old self now. No shit. I didn't understand the appeal of Homecoming until I actually was an alum (also a "no shit" concept).

I become more and more grateful for my four years there every day, and can't wait to head back for some bonfires, tenet parties, brunches and football games with my lovely friends!

Is homecoming a big deal at your alma mater?
How often do you go back?

  1. I don't think we have Homecoming here in Canada. It would be pretty amazing if we did though!

  2. In the town where my college is there is an Autumn Leaf Festival. It's kinda huge and our homecoming always corresponded with that weekend. We even got the Friday before off from classes! I went back the very first year after I graduated (so it was like I hadn't really left). I need to get back!!

  3. We have a big parade and stuff going on around the campus and town... but our football team is actually awful so the game is definitely not the highlight of the weekend!

  6. I had my high school reunion this weekend. I ran into a few of my friends who graduated a year before, and they said that their reunion was held during a random meaningless weekend last October. And while ours was during a big weekend (we played our rivals), I kept thinking, "This would make more sense during homecoming!" The funny thing is I had never thought about homecoming as when alumni come home--I was thinking it was just one of the home games that celebrated the season. (I actually always wondered why homecoming wasn't the last home game...because they would be coming home.) I feel really silly now!
